Day 3 - 29th June 2010 Ice Breaking

Had a pretty relaxed day today. Ice breaking session in the morning was fun - some fun activities to help in getting acquainted with more people. By far the best introduction was of a girl who said-"I am not an engineer from Bombay" :D That seems to have become a stereotype now, though I feel its slightly exaggerated. Also got introduced to our course curriculum and it seemed pretty interesting. Got our second textbook , this one on marketing management and a student manual which is being preached as the Bible for our existence here for the next 2 years.

Got done by around 330 so headed to the library to escape the heat. Its a very comfortable place though I feel it may a little small for 2 batches. Evening was quite pleasant with a very nice breeze blowing across campus. After dinner headed for a walk around campus. Located Paras Bhai's crib - he is the dhobi on campus. Also found an excellent spot for some solitude, more about that later.

Posting this one from the library. I guess this week is going to be the only chilled out one on campus so will try and make the most of it.

Day 2 - 28th June 2010 - Getting Oriented

Never realized that it could be so difficult to sleep in this heat. Had a very disturbed sleep last night thanks to the intense heat. After waking up at 7 went to the mess for breakfast - had heard a lot about it,but it was strictly ok today.

The orientation began today with the director addressing us. Was a good speech, I guess since we are the first batch whom he will see through till the end, quite a lot of changes might be implemented. He also laid a lot of stress on sports and extra curricular activities. Will know in due course of time how things are implemented. We also had some sessions conducted by the registrar and librarian. Got done relatively early so headed to the community centre for a game of pool. Was one of those days where I sucked at it (not that Im Pankaj Advani).

In the evening there was a dinner organized for PGP1 on behalf of the director. We went to a place called Rajwadu - a Gujrati/Rajasthani restaurant with a very rural ambience. Food was good and a couple of folk dancers provided additional entertainment. During the course of the day met some more people from Bombay. At this rate there might be a person from every station on the Central, Harbour and Western lines!

Anyways gotta hit the sack now. Got an icebreaking session tomorrow, wonder how its going to be.

Day 1 - 27th June 2010 And so it begins

This blog is 'inspired' by one of my friends who is studying at IIM -L, his blog can be found here. His blog was a source of inspiration when I was preparing for all the B school entrance examinations.

Anyways now back to MICA!

Had a pretty uneventful journey from Bombay. Reached campus at around 330 in the afternoon, had to register at the entry gate itself and also got the itinerary for the orientation week. Got to know my hostel and room no. - Palash Room No. 30 is going to be my home for the next 9 months. Soon realized that I was one of the Late Latifs, there were people who had settled down 2 days back! The hostels seemed to be pretty decent. Palash is interconnected with Parijat and Kachnar. These names remind me of the society in Bombay where I used to live, the buildings there had similar names.

After settling down in my room went to find out about the course registration details. Got to know that it could only be done tomorrow at 9 a.m. Also got a taste of the Ahmedabad heat that everyone warned me about. Tried to counter it by downing two glasses of Nimbu paani at Chotta canteen (Chotta's ) , although yummy it provided only temporary succour. Met a few people who were at Chotta's, quite a lot of people are from Bombay and Pune. And whoever I've met from Pune has a very special bond with that city :-) , so Im not the only one.

Went to Big Bazaar in the evening to buy stuff for the room. Got done in an hours time. Half of PGP1 seemed to be there, it helped in completing each others shopping lists. Got back to campus and saw the second half of the England Germany game followed by dinner. After dinner went for a walk around campus with a few people discussing everything under the sun - from Pune to Mithun da's Gunda! Came back to my room and finally met my roommate(throughout the day - when I was in the room he wasn't there and vice versa). Spoke to him for a while before calling it a day. Tomorrow the orientation begins, looking forward to it.
